Cusco: Market

We went to the market in Cusco, ostensibly to get me a new day backpack, as mine tore apart in Madrid airport not even making it in one piece to Peru. However, I found the exact same bag in the market in Ollantaytambo the very next day which kind of undermined our trip. Winnie from our hostel sorted us out big time with transport, which we never would have known about had it not been for her. The views on route to Cusco were pretty impresisve too.

We shared a taxi with 3, yes 3, other people to Urubamba for 2.5soles (about 75p) and from there got another shared taxi to Cusco for 7soles. Cheap as chips. Ollantaytambo to Cusco is about an hour and forty mins so you get good bang for buck here.

There is not much to say about Cusco, it didn’t look very attractive on approach and even less so when we were actually there. I’m very glad we are staying in quaint Ollantaytambo but if you want to party, Cusco is the place to be.

The market we went to wasn’t much to write home about, however some of the stalls and sights amused us so thought would share them:

No words…

We caught a shared minibus directly back to Ollantaytambo with about 15 other people for 10 soles:£2.50. Bloody brilliant.

  1. Brilliant blog, Dani. Love your sardonic writing style, tempered by the Attenborough-esque descriptions of the wildlife and the people. Educational and very amusing. Interesting stall-of-utter-tat! Cherubs – have their place; Dolphins – wonderful; but a cherub embracing a dolphin!? WTF?… I would have loved to have been in THAT design meeting! Tell me that suited little boy mannequin’s eyes aren’t going to suddenly move and look directly at me – freaky. Stay safe and enjoy. J

  2. Hi Padster and Dani,

Blog is awesome, is it wrong that I want EVERYTHING from the store full of tat? And I massively want to meet Mary Mary quite contrary? Hope you are having loads and loads of fun.

    Lots of love Croney

p.s. I probably should have introduced myself to you Dani, my name is Sarah Croney, I know Paddy, I am an idiot and I also hate squeaky polystyrene.

    xxxxxxx
